French

Bonjour!

Subiaco Primary School’s French language program opens the door to a world of opportunities for your child.  We work closely with neighbouring schools and with Alliance Francaise and many of our students continue their French studies at high school and beyond.

Our French as an Additional Language Program is designed to give students a strong foundation in the French language, while also developing their intercultural awareness and appreciation of French culture. Aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum, our programme covers all aspects of language – listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Our students study French from year 3 – year 6, with a focus on developing students’ French communication skills in a variety of contexts. Students learn to introduce themselves, make requests, and confidently converse about their daily lives. Students are taught using a variety of methods including direct instruction, interactive games, songs, stories and videos to make learning French fun and engaging.

We also explore the rich tapestry of French culture and customs, fostering an appreciation for the diverse French-speaking world.

Features of our Year 3-6 French language programme:

  • Communicative approach: We focus on developing students’ ability to communicate in French in a variety of contexts.
  • Immersive learning environment: We create an immersive learning environment where students can use French regularly.
  • Culturally responsive: We teach students about French culture and customs, enriching students’ intercultural awareness.
  • Differentiated instruction: We cater for the individual needs of all students, ensuring that all students progress at their own pace.
  • Alignment with the Western Australian Curriculum: Our programme seamlessly aligns with the Western Australian Curriculum for French.
