School Psychologist

Our school psychologist is integral to fostering a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment for all students. They play a crucial role in supporting students’ mental health and well-being.

At Subiaco Primary School, our school psychologist provides:

  1. Mental Health Support: They help students manage emotional and psychological issues, providing counseling and interventions for those experiencing anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges.
  2. Learning and Development: School psychologists assess and support students with learning difficulties, helping to develop strategies and interventions to enhance their academic performance.
  3. Behavioral Support: They work with students to address behavioral issues, helping them develop better coping and social skills.
  4. Crisis Intervention: In times of crisis, such as family issues or traumatic events, school psychologists provide immediate support and guidance to affected students.
  5. Collaboration with Staff and Parents: They collaborate with teachers and parents to create supportive learning environments and develop individualised education plans (IEPs) for students who need them.
  6. Whole-School Programs: School psychologists often implement programs aimed at improving the overall school climate, promoting positive behavior, and enhancing students’ social and emotional learning.

Subiaco Primary School is fortunate to have a Wellbeing and Engagement Officer employed three days a week who plays a vital role in fostering a positive and supportive school environment.

Our Wellbeing and Engagement Officer provides:

  1. Student Support: They provide individual support to students, helping them with emotional, social, and behavioral issues. This can include one-on-one counseling and facilitating access to external support services.
  2. Promoting Engagement: These officers work to keep students engaged in their education by developing programs and activities that make school a more inclusive and enjoyable place.
  3. Building Resilience: They help students build resilience and coping skills, which are essential for their overall well-being and academic success.
  4. Crisis Intervention: In times of crisis, such as family issues or traumatic events, they provide immediate support and guidance to affected students.
  5. Collaboration: They work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to create a cohesive support network for students. This includes contributing to the development of whole-school wellbeing strategies.
  6. Community Links: They help strengthen the connection between the school and the wider community, ensuring that students have access to a broad range of resources and support.

Our School Wellbeing and Engagement Officer helps create a nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Learning Support Coordinator

Our Learning Support Coordinator is pivotal in ensuring that all students, especially those with additional learning needs, receive the support they need to succeed.

  1. Individualised Support: They develop and oversee individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with learning difficulties or disabilities, ensuring that each student receives tailored support to meet their unique needs.
  2. Collaboration: They work closely with teachers, parents, and external specialists (such as speech therapists and occupational therapists) to create a cohesive support network for students.
  3. Professional Development: They provide training and resources to teachers and education assistants to help them implement effective teaching strategies and accommodations in the classroom.
  4. Monitoring and Assessment: They regularly assess and monitor the progress of students receiving learning support, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure optimal educational outcomes.
  5. Administrative Duties: They manage the documentation and compliance related to learning support, including funding applications and reporting requirements.
  6. Transition Support: They assist students in transitioning between different stages of their education, such as moving from primary to secondary school, ensuring continuity of support.
